L03: Evaluation

L03: Evaluation

Evaluation of Unit 20 Product

For this unit, I managed to create advertising media such as posters and banners that were created for Wombwell Operatic Theatre group. The reason why I chose to do Wombwell Operatic Theatre, was because I am a member of the group, and I have a good friendship with the people who run the building. This allowed me to get guaranteed permission to be allowed to create advertising media.

Advertising Evaluation: Poster

The poster presented here, has a continuous use of bright colours and a colour scheme. The reason why I chose to have the poster in bright colours, as it can connote back to what theatres are supposed to be like, as the target audience for a theatre are both male and females, from the ages of 5- 100. In addition to this, an Operatic Theatre does a wide range of performances, from musicals, pantomimes, and other events that they can host.
The posters purpose is to advertise for new members, which is why the words "WE NEED YOU" are in a bright red bold text, that has been beveled and embossed to make it stand out more, and to be seen from a distance. I have then added a short and detailed information regarding why the theatre needs you. I have put this underneath the sell line of the poster, with a white font, as I want to make it easy to read for everyone, with a modern style added to it, as it makes the words not too small to see.

Why does this poster follow ASA guidelines?

The reason why this poster follows the ASA guidelines, is because we can see the posters design follows its target audience. Also, the poster does not show any explicit content, such as nudity or comments that could be deemed as offensive.
Privacy- My poster follows the privacy guidelines, as no names of members are mentioned within the poster. All that is mentioned within the poster is the name of the theatre, what street it is on, and the name if the theatres Facebook group. The images used for this is completely my own, along with a free image of a theatre in the background. The reason why I didn't use our theatre was due to lighting and not being able to get the required image. I also, decided to use a brand new logo for the theatre, as the original has a white background with small writing, so I decided to make the logo stand out more.

The New Logo

The reason why I think the new logo is better, is because it is easy to see from a distance. Also, the old logo has a blur on the main text. The new logo is also more modern in font, which makes the logo more appealing to a larger and younger audience, as it shows the theatre will include things for this generation, and carry on adapting to changes.

Advertising Evaluation: Banner

The Banner I have created here follows the same colour scheme as what I used for the poster. The reason why I want to keep using the same colours for advertising, is because an audience that would see the poster, would instantly recognise the banner for same use of colours. Also, I split the page in 2, as I wanted one side to be the logo of the company, which includes the masthead being bigger and brighter than the other text on the banner. This was done to make it instantly recognisable to an audience, as we can already tell that this is for the Wombwell Operatic Theatre, just by the logo.
Where could this be used?:  The banner could be used outside the theatre building, preferably in the centre, for when people are walking down to Wombwell Centre or walking up to the George Pub, they will be able to see the banner every time.

Why Does This Banner Follow ASA Guidelines

The reason why this poster follows the ASA guidelines, is because we can see the banners design follows its target audience. Also, the poster does not show any explicit content, such as nudity or comments that could be deemed as offensive.
Privacy: My banner follows the privacy guidelines, as it follows my own designs and no one else's. Also, the banner does not show or mention any current or past members of the theatre, as it is made to just advertise and not shoutout anybody. The only thing that is mentioned that relates to the theatre, is the logo. Although it is my logo I believe it is more modern and stands out far better than the original.

Advertising Evaluation: Advert

The advert I have created for Unit 20, follows the same colour scheme I created for both my poster and banner. As explained before, the reason why I chose to have my products the same colour, is the make it recognisable for the Wombwell Operatic Society.
The advert can be used on a new social media page on instagram, as the advert can be the starting point of the page by drawing in a new audience. To ensure this stays on the page and not lose it after 24 hours, I can create a story highlight that will stay on the theatres profile for everybody to see. This will allow people to view our advert after clicking on our profile, and then have another highlights page of the past shows that were done.  The reason why the Masthead on the advert is a more saturated purple, is because I wan the advert to stand out more than a banner or a poster. This is because drawing an audience on social media is really difficult due to the amount of influencers and brands on apps such as instagram. This means that the logo must stand out more digitally than physical.

Why Does This Follow ASA Guidelines

The reason why my Advert follows the ASA Guidelines, is because the advert follows the topic that was set for my target audience. Also, the advert targets my audience of both male and female audience from 5-80, as there is no swearing in the advert or rude images that could be found as offensive.
Privacy: My advert follows the privacy protections required for the advert, as no names of members are mentioned, along with only giving away the name of the group which is required. Although it does mention the Facebook group which is public, so everyone will be able to see recent posts and information from members.

Why are the ASA guidelines important?

The reason why the ASA guidelines are important for advertising, is because all advertising products must relate to what is being presented. Therefore, there must not be any type of misleading information being presented within those advertising products. For example, my poster states that this is for a theatre company in Wombwell. An example of misreading information could be making a poster Wombwell Operatics, but instead talk about Tescos down Rotherham. Also, the details on the product have to be correct when writing about what we do at the theatre.

OfCom

OfCom (Office Of Communications) also have strict but simple rules of their own when it comes to advertising. For example, the products must not show any explicit images on their adverts such as, violence, nudity or any form of hate crime and racism, they also do not condone the use of promotion of drugs and potentially alcohol if you are not licensed to do so. The reason why this is put in place, is because it allows the advertising product to be viewed by a wide amount of audiences, which will increase its popularity to those interested in that product.
